Types of Ball Bearings

What is the Difference Between Single Row and Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings?

Single-row angular contact ball bearings are usually selected for applications with high speed and thrust load capacity. They are usually arranged in a face-to-face or back-to-back configuration.

Double-row angular contact ball bearings also provide unidirectional thrust capability, but they are paired with additional angular contact ball bearings to provide dual shaft support. They are a common choice for pump applications.

The proper bearing type for an application depends on the load capacity, load direction, and lubrication and sealing requirements. There are single-point, double-point, and four-point bearings with different sizes and lubrication options.

Characteristics of Angular Contact Bearings

Angular contact bearings are ideal for transmissions, pumps, electric motors and clutches or other high speed applications.
They are commonly used in the material handling, machine tool, steel mill and wind energy industries.
Although angular contact bearings can only accommodate thrust loads in one direction, they can be manufactured with varying contact angles (typically between 0 and 45 degrees) to transfer loads acting on the bearing.
